Dr. Paul Myers

What is Dr. Myers’ training background?

Dr. Paul Myers has been providing psychotherapy, counseling, and consulting services for 30 years. He earned his undergraduate degree from the Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon, and he earned his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Notre Dame. He is licensed to practice in Oregon (License #1092) and this licensure requires a minimum of 40 hours of ongoing continuing education, reported to the Board of Psychology every two years.

Dr. Myers has provided assessment, consulting, and treatment services in clinical contexts that range from university healthy or counseling centers, a county jail, a psychiatric hospital, community mental health centers, and private practices. He has been a frequent speaker and consultant at regional and national professional conferences as well as high schools, churches, and universities around the country.

What is his professional leadership experience?

Dr. Myers was the director for health, counseling, and disability services at the University of Portland for 19 years, and prior to that he was the adult outpatient services coordinator for Delaunay Family of Services in North Portland. He also served as the president of the Pacific Coast College Health Association, and was the chair of the board of directors for Unity: A Behavioral Health Care Company (a precursor to Cascadia Mental Health). Dr. Myers’ professional interests along with his clinical expertise are in professional ethics, having served for many years on the American College Health Association Ethics Committee (two years as chair), and in understanding the role of religion and spirituality in both mental and physical health (creating and serving two years as chair of a professional education committee on the subject).

Dr. Myers is a Fellow of the American College Health Association (ACHA), and was given the Tunon Award for Promotion of Human Dignity by ACHA. While at the University of Portland, Dr. Myers received the Miltner Award, their highest award for an administrator, and the Spirit of Holy Cross Award for advancing the mission of the institution.
